7. Anion measuring method
Measuring instrument: Ion Tester KST-900, manufactured by Kobe Dempa Co., Ltd.
<Open test>
The test specimen is cut into a A4-size piece, pasted onto a cardboard pattern and made into a tube, 290mm in length and 60mm in diameter. The concentration of atmospheric ions that go through the tube
set in the measuring device is examined. The ion concentration of the room is observed before and after the specimen test and the difference determines the amount of anion generation.
<Anion generation in open test>
See Table-2.
Table-2 Anion generation in the open test (pieces/ml)
The concentration of anions in a forest atmosphere is said to be 200-300/ml. The table indicates that a similar number of anions is continuously generated from cotton knit fabric treated with a solution
of 10% Kayacera Paste and 5% Kayacryl Resin T-126, up to 10 repeated washes. Measuring tests are carried out at Nippon Kayaku. Measuring instrument: Ion Tester KST-900, manufactured by Kobe Dempa.
Note:
Measurements differ considerably depending on the kind of instruments, with indications for the number of anions in the same test ranging up to several thousand/ml. In such cases, a measurement from
a forest atmosphere by the same instrument can provide an indication. No instrument or rules for anion measurement are standardized at present.
