Special feature: Inkjet Printing
  7) Hashimoto Senko's introduction of natural fiber transfer printing
Kazuhiko Sasaki, president of Senshoku Keizai Shimbun
A new move has emerged to counter inkjets. Those who stand on the side of inkjet printing should not underestimate this as just another form of transfer printing. The news is as follows.

Hashimoto Senko (16, Kami Okubo Cho, Tanaka, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto, Tel: +81 75 781 5185) has recently introduced Dansk's transfer printer for natural fiber, via Shinko Sangyo, Dansk's exclusive agent in Japan, and put it into operation. Transfer paper, with color designs on it, is also provided by Dansk.

Dansk (Denmark, Sales HQ: Hong Kong) a manufacturer of transfer printers as well as transfer paper with color designs. The manufacturing technology of its transfer paper has been patented worldwide.

Dansk's technology of transfer printing on natural fiber brings about high-quality printed results with no skilled engineers required such as with auto flat screens. With the cost being considerably lower than before, it even allows factories currently at work with auto flat screens to substantially widen their range of operation by introducing Dansk's transfer paper for natural fiber, along with heat transfer printers.

Transfer paper with color designs produced by a major German manufacturer Transfertex (gravure printing), can also be used besides Dansk's own to provide a wider selection from the latest designs of the two companies. For original designs, plates can also be prepared at Dansk upon request.

The production of transfer paper for natural fiber is specially characterized by the use of reactive dyes. Dansk's machines for the production require no heat source for transferring dyes onto paper under cold and wet conditions, and the production is completed by light rinsing and drying.

Printed fabric can be expected to maintain practically about the same level of fastness, a softer hand and a better degree of design sharpness, compared to direct printing. (Vivid-color designs, which are currently only obtainable by heat transfer printing, can be printed on natural-type fabric.) It is applicable to all natural-type fibers such as cotton, silk, rayon; synthetics can be replaced by gentle, healthy natural fibers in the field of apparel, interior furnishing and bedding.

The latest European designs can readily be selected for small-lot, multiple design production, and moreover, research into wider applications and special variations of transfer printing on synthetic blends can also be expected.

It is environmentally sound, with no need for effluent treatment, only pH adjustment, and there is no danger for operators as it uses no heat source or special chemical substances.

For enquiry on the transfer printer and paper, please contact the machinery division of Shinko Sangyo (+81 6 6266 6321), the exclusive agency in Japan.
