The textile industry of Turkey is expanding its exports in western markets with a combination of its sophisticated sense and high quality as competition for Italian textiles. To develop more new markets, Turkey will enter the Japanese market in earnest.

Textile chemical manufacturers implement strategy of expanding
worldwide sales for increasing airbag use.

Japanese textile chemical manufacturers have been conspicuous in implementing their strategy to expand the sales of coating agents and auxiliaries for internationally increasing airbag use. According to "Textile Finishing" a technical book published by the SDC of England (the Japanese version is published by IS Co., Ltd), the size of the market for airbags has been expanding internationally since 1993, and it is estimated that the total usage of coated fabric for airbags in Europe was 700,000m2 in 1988, and exceeded 60,500,000m2 in 2000.

Coating agents for airbags in Europe are shifting from solvent types to nonsolvent ones like silicone elastomers which are currently used increasingly, and Japanese textile chemical manufacturers are considering worldwide promotion of coating agents and auxiliaries for airbags, looking squarely at the overseas situation regarding finishing equipment.

Textile finishing industry takes action in response to innovative changes in coating and laminating regulations on volatile organic compounds.

Because a law regulating volatile organic compounds (VOC) came into effect in Japan, firms carrying out coating and laminating started to take action for preventing air pollution caused by solvent type agents during the grace period for existing equipment.

Toray's non-formalin antibacterial finishing "MAKSPEC" is applied to the cloth which inhibits the growth of bacteria.
