Asahi Kasei Fibers develops acid-dye-dyeable spandex fiber with own polymer technology

Asahi Kasei Fibers has developed spandex fiber ROICA® DS which is dyeable with acid dye.It is a spandex (polyurethane elastic fiber) developed using Asahi Kasei’s own technology. It has the property of enhanced dyeability property with acid dyes, compared to existing ROICA.

Conventional spandex fiber cannot be dyed with acid dyes.It is prone to“crack marks” caused by undyed spandex and “glare” that makes the spandex look shiny when it is elongated, as it is a composite fiber incorporating polyamide fiber like nylon. This has resulted in degrading the quality level of fabrics.

An affinity for acid dyes is added to the polymer of this newly developed ROICA® DS to eliminate “crack marks” and “glare.”This makes it an entirely-new type of spandex.

With this characteristic, there would be no risk of trouble when dyeing blended fabrics incorporating polyamide fiber like nylon. It makes it possible to improve reproducibility of nylon compound fibers and ROICA® DS.Dyeing in a wide range of colors including black of course, depending on fabric specifications, is possible.

The original yarn of ROICA® DS will be distributed from November 2007.The promotion of the brand will start from 44 dtex and will be expanded gradually.Applications are innerwear (including accessories), pantyhose and outerwear, and will be expanded to various other uses.
