The vice chairman of the Japan Textile Finisher's Association, Mr. Yoshiaki Yashiro
(President of Tokai Senko), had a press conference at the association in Osaka
on November 1 and revealed that manufacturing and supply of 45 dyestuffs including
yellow and black disperse dyes have been discontinued as of the end of October,
giving the situation that dyestuff manufacturers have moved toward the discontinuation
of unprofitable products manufacturing and small lot supply, while price increases
of dyestuffs will be fully implemented from December. Further increases in the
number of discontinued items are expected from November. With this, the dyeing
industry is currently being forced to change recipes caused by switching dyes
to alternatives, which takes time and effort as well as incurring higher costs.
He expressed a sense of crisis that if the number of discontinued dyestuffs increases
more, there is a possibility that it will disenable some recipes.
With the price increases, each dyeing finishing company has requested raises
in finishing prices by an average 10% to clients from October. While 7 companies
from the association in the staple printing industry said, "80% of requests
for price increases were accepted with markups averaging 5%. We will proceed
with more requests, which are scheduled to be completed in December," 11
companies in the warp knit industry are in the situation that "only 60%
of requests for price increase were currently accepted with markups of 2% since
most of the clients are in material and vehicle related industries in which it
is difficult to carry out the price increases," and said, "we would
like them to accept raises averageing 5 % at least for the present." |
