Warp knit industry is booming in China

China has witnessed a rapid growth in the warp knit industry. About 18,000 advanced warp knit machines were imported in the five years from 2001 to 2006.  The production of domestically-produced warp knit machines is brisk, being 31,160 in 2006.  As a result, the rate of advancing and updating facilities in the warp knit industry was calculated to be 77%, which is up 6% compared to that of the knit industry.

The production of warp knit fabrics is focused in four states, Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang and Chiangsu, which account for 91% of total national production.  According to the China knit industrial association, 15 knit-producing areas have been formed.  The volume of warp knit fabric production in 2006 was 85 billion yuan (about 10.7 billion dollars).  Exporting is on the fast track as well.  The export of warp knit fabrics (not including those for industrial use and narrow fabrics) in 2006 was 71,000 tons, up 17.8% from the previous year, and the volume was 320 million dollars, up 18.7%.
