Patagonia of US jointly develops closed-loop recycled garment with Teijin F and Toray

Patagonia (Ventura, California), a major US outdoor clothing company, announced on December 12 that it has jointly developed waterproof, air- permeable jackets using the closed-loop chemical recycling technology with Teijin Fibers and Toray. They are skiing and snowboarding jackets using Teijin Fibers' recycled polyester and alpine climbing jackets using Toray's nylon 6, which will be promoted for autumn/winter 2008 in global markets.

Skiing and snowboarding jackets developed with Teijin Fibers have the benefits reducing about 80% of energy consumption and CO2 emissions compared to manufacturing a new polyester raw material from oil, and alpine climbing jackets developed with Toray of reducing about 70% compared to manufacturing a new nylon 6 raw material from oil.

Patagonia aims to use recyclable or recycled materials for all products manufactured by the company by 2010.
