American National Standards Institute approves new carpet standard

The American National Standards Institute has approved "NSF 140-2007," a new certification standard for environmentally preferable carpet products, as American National Standard (ANS). The committee consisting of government representatives, manufacturers and end users have worked on this standard for five years. "NSF 140-2007" has set a course for producing recyclable carpet in the industry, meeting requirements for public health in various aspects such as energy and raw materials.

According to the Carpet & Rug Institute, the first carpet products approved by the new standard are expected to be available in the market by the second quarter of 2008.
