Shima Seiki marks record-high sales and profits in fiscal year ending March 2008 |

The financial results for fiscal year ending March 2008 at Shima Seiki Mfg.
shows a turnover of 69.897 billion yen (up by 48.5% from the previous year),
operating profits of 16.213 billion yen(up by 11.3%), ordinary profits of 19.085
billion yen(up by 102%) and a net income of 9.958 billion yen(up by 219.8%).
The company marked a record high in both sales and profits owing to an increase
in demand for computerized flat-knitting machines in the markets of China and
Hong Kong.
The foreign sales ratio in the consolidated net sales of Shima Seiki Mfg.
is 94.1%. China, Korea and Taiwan account for 67% of those sales, and, especially
in China and Hong Kong, the change in demand from manual to computerized flat-knitting
machines expanded due to wage increases and a labor shortage.
