Mitsubishi Rayon to reduce 50,000 ton acrylic fiber production

Mitsubishi Rayon announced its three-year business midterm blueprint through fiscal 2010, "Global US→2010," on May 2. According to the plan, it aims to reduce its 50,000\-ton acrylic fiber production capacity from 182,000 tons (132,000 tons in Japan, 50,000 tons in China) in fiscal 2007 to 132,000 tons by 2010. By reducing the production of general-purpose acrylic fiber for garments and interiors and shifting its focus toward high-value-added variations of the material, it will improve profitability in its acrylic fiber business. The company will accelerate the conversion of domestic acrylic fiber production facilities to carbon fiber precursor production facilities. The following shows the numeric targets of "Global US→2010."
