Fiberweb to sell its Brazilian subsidiary

Fiberweb has announced that it would sell its Brazilian subsidiary, Bidim, to Mexichem S.A.B de C.V., a subsidiary of Mexichem. The sale value will be 55.5 million Brazilian Reales ($32.90 million) pending shareholder and regulatory approval. The company will use the proceeds of the sale to pay down debt.

Bidim has been manufacturing polyester nonwovens for geotextiles, roofing and footwear with a plant located near Sao Paolo. The company's gross assets as of the end of 2007 were $32.90 million and pre-tax profit for the year was $2.53 million.

Fiberweb has been carrying out business selection and concentration, focusing on strengthening its core hygiene and specialty industrial businesses. The divestment of Bidim follows a series of rationalization strategies for Fiberweb including the sale of its wipe business to Ahlstrom in early 2007.
