American Apparel to acquire dyeing plant

American Apparel (Los Angeles, California), the major US apparel manufacturer and distributor, announced that it would acquire a dyeing plant to bring all of its dyeing volume in-house.

The company has purchased a dyeing plant from US Dyeing & Finishing in Garden Grove, California for $3.8 million, and will keep its employees (about 140). Among the assets purchased are equipment such as dyeing machinery, washers, compressors and boilers. The company will take over the lease on two adjacent buildings as well (about 145,000m2). US Dyeing & Finishing has operated this facility for contract work of dyeing and finishing for American Apparel products for approximately ten years. American Apparel is a brand with 185 stores in 15 countries with about 7,000 employees around the world (as of May 2008). Besides the US, the company has stores in Canada, Mexico, the UK, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Holland, Sweden, Switzerland, Israel, Australia, Japan and Korea. It has an online-shop to sell casual wear like T-shirts as well.
