The Indian techtextile market now stands at $8.3 billion, but the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, in the Technopak report, expects it to become a $37 billion industry by 2020, provided enough investment is made in research and development and competitiveness is intensified. For applications, construction-related, offshore engineering and protective textile industries are seen as promising in view of the growing infrastructure and increasing use of fire retardant textiles. For the geotexitle market, it says the market will reach about Rs 10,000 crore ($2.35 billion) in the next five years.
