Teiken and Achilles to develop heat-resistant and fire-retardant sheet using meta aramid fiber

Cross section image of “Heat-resistant and fire-retardant sheet”

Teiken, a subsidiary of N.I. Teijin Shoji, and Achilles have jointly developed "heat-resistant and fire-retardant sheet" using meta aramid fiber and hollow ceramic beads. It will be available in the market from the end of July 2008 as a fabric for protective wear for work at shaft furnaces, electrical furnaces, and glassworks furnaces involving casting and melting.

This newly developed "High heat-resistant and fire-retardant sheet" has a meta aramid fiber "Teijin® Conex®" as a base and a laminated surface with a rubber layer containing with an hollow ceramic beads average particle diameter of 0.01~300μ. The hollow ceramic beads are capable of controlling heat conduction owing to their hollow from working as a heat insulating layer, as well as resisting heat. Additionally, the heat reflecting property was improved by laminating an aluminum layer on the surface.

This structure has improved its heat resistance property more than eight times and its heat insulating property more than twice that of conventional aluminum fabrics. It was able to maintain the same flexibility as conventional products.
