According to Nishinakajima Precision Machinery, a manufacturer of hank mercerizing systems, "all orders for hank mercerizing systems have been from China, and domestic orders are stagnating because Japanese firms are cutting investment in facilities."

The executive of Nishinakajima Precision Machinery explained the difference between hank mercerizing firms in Japan and China, saying "Many Japanese firms remove a squeeze roll for caustic solution. This is because there is a risk of resulting in uneven dyeing if hank yarn dipped with caustic solution is squeezed by a squeeze roll. On the other hand, in China, there are many firms which request installation of a squeeze roll, aiming to save about 20% of the caustic solution."
