Italy's PET maker, M&G (Gruppo Mossi & Ghisolfi) announced on July 17 that it would expand the capacity of its plant in Ipojuca, Brazil from its current 450,000 tons to 650,000 tons, the largest for a single reactor. The company has already ordered necessary equipment parts, and the expansion will be completed in 12-15 months.
M&G estimates that Brazil's PET market will finally reach 650,000 tons in 2012 or 2013, and came to the decision for this investment to ensure that it continues to provide stable supply and support for growth plans for its customers.
The company currently engages in PET polymer and acetate businesses with plants in Brazil, Italy, Mexico and the US. Its subsidiary, Acetati is manufacturing cellulose acetate in Europe.
Currently, its total PET production capacity around the world has reached
1,650,000 tons and it will be over 2,500,000 tons after including the expansion
in Brazil and the production capacity of subsidiaries in China and India of recently-acquired
Chemtex International.
