Kuraray to sell lightweight canvas for flat sheet for truck bed

Kuraray will start sales of "POWERON-P," a lightweight canvas for flat sheets for truck beds, commercialized with high-tenacity vinylon fiber "KURALON K-Ⅱ" from August 1.

"POWERON-P," a canvas for flat sheets used to cover truck beds, is thin and light, using 100% spun yarn which makes full use of the high-tenacity property of "KURALON K-Ⅱ."

While conventional general-purpose products weigh about 525g per 1m2, "POWERON-P" is about 390g, managing to reduce its weight by 25%. With this, for general large-size flat sheets, an 11kg reduction was realized from the current 42kg to about 31kg.

In response to local input, like "loading and unloading of heavy sheets is very hard," it will improve workability as well as contribute to fuel efficiency.

Kuraray says it plans to take a proactive stance in research and product development in new areas, applying its fiber materials such as "Vinylon" and "KURALON K-Ⅱ" not only to current fisheries and agricultural material areas but to top canvas and flat sheets in the truck industry.

The specifications and performance of "POWERON-P" measured by Kuraray is 103 cm (width) x approx. 50 m (length), 0.45mm thick, 390g/m2, tensile elongation 10 x 18 (%), tear strength 9 x 8(kgf) and water resistance over 1500(mm/H2O). It is available in three colors; dark green, blue and olive drab. The asking price for flat sheet is 3,150 yen/m2.
