Reliance of India to enter polyester business in US

Reliance Industries, one of the largest polyester makers in the world, will enter the polyester business in the US.

Reliance Industries USA, its subsidiary in the US, will purchase a production facility in Kinston, North Carolina that Unifi closed in 2007 for $12.2 million, and newly invest $215 million in the next five years to manufacture PET polymer used in the production of plastic containers and specialty polyester fibers.

With this acquisition, Reliance Industries will have its first production base in North America. The company will promote its polyester business in a tripolar structure; in Europe, the US and Asia, after its entry into the US, following the acquisition of Trevira of Germany in 2004 and Hualon Malaysia in 2007.
