Testing on resist printing with non-dischargeable disperse dyes on polyester
through the direct printing method has recently been carried out in 3 Indonesian
factories. Technical advice in the testing was given by Mr. Naoharu Oyabu, a
printing consultant.
Resist printing without use of tin chloride
All disperse dyes are applicable
According to Mr. Oyabu, 'Resist printing on polyester, in which commonly-used
azoic and quinon type non-dischargeable dyes can be applied without difficulty,
is now in the offing. All kinds of disperse dyes are applicable, and the printing
can be carried out through the wet-on-wet direct method.
'Through cooperation with printing factories in Indonesia, the testing has
advanced close to the potential implementation of the method. Further testing
should be carried out from every angle to find out whether it can be practically
used at the work front in printing factories.
Mr. Oyabu continues, 'The special feature of the resist printing through
the wet-on-wet direct method tested in 3 Indonesian factories is that no printing
paste made with tin chloride or alkali is required in the process. If this method
is implemented, it will widen the range of applicable dyes, as well as contributing
to the protection of the environment by using no tin chloride. Consecutive testing
will be necessary to see if this resist printing by the direct method can be
put into practice.'
The outline of the procedure tested is as follows.
A polyester cloth upon which resist printing paste is placed is first ground-printed
through the wet-on-wet method, then steamed and washed. 'The most efficient will
be through the rotary screen printing method', he added.
The key to the implementation of this method seems to be in the development
of new resist printing pastes.
