Highly effective concentrated scouring agent
Tripon AC-21-1
In removing the primary impurity of cotton wax and the secondary impurities of sizing agent, wax and knitting oil from gray fabric to ensure problem-free dyeing, scouring is an important process contributing to the quality of the final product.
Through committed research, Ipposha has developed TRIPON AC-21-1, a highly effective concentrated scouring agent with good initial penetration and low foaming properties, effective in the emulsification and removal of wax.
General Characteristics
| Appearance: |
Slightly turbid pale yellow liquid |
| Ionicity: |
Nonionic/Anionic |
| pH: |
Weakly alkaline (10g/L ion-exchange water) |
| Solubility: |
Dissolves readily in cold water |
Properties
- Highly concentrated scouring agent that can be used in half the quantities of regular products to produce a good washing effect and prevent redeposition.
- Highly effective in the emulsification and removal of wax.
- Good initial penetration.
- Does not inhibit enzymatic activity, thus suitable for use as a scouring and penetrating agent for enzymatic desizing.
- Extremely low foaming properties for temperatures ranging from room temperature to high treatment temperatures.
- Defoams quickly, preventing problems related to foaming during the discharge of water and in the wastewater pit.
- Excellent alkaline (NaOH) stability and can be used in continuous scouring.
- Residual agent in the scoured cloth will not influence dyeing.
Performance Evaluation
1. Scouring test
<Test conditions>
Substrate: Cotton knit gray fabric
Treatment:
 |
| Scouring agent |
See below |
| NaOH (flake) |
2g/L |
|
Liquor ratio |
1:20 |
|
Temperature & Time |
95°C x 60min
→Warm rinsing (60°C) →Cold rinsing →Drying (80°C x 15min) |
<Evaluation items and methods>
- Scouring properties (rewetting)
The lower end of a 2cm x 5cm piece of scoured fabric was placed in blue-black ink and after two minutes the height to which the ink had climbed was determined.
A high value implied that the cloth had good rewetting properties, thus indicating that the scouring had been effective.
- Quantity of remaining oil
| Extraction device: |
Soxtec System HT-6
(Japan General Co., Ltd.) |
| Extracting solvent: |
Ethanol/hexane (mixture of 1:1) |
A low value indicated a low quantity of remaining oil and thus that the scouring was effective.
- Drip method
One drop of water was dropped onto scoured cloth and the time taken for it to penetrate the cloth determined. The lower the value the higher the effectiveness of the scouring.
<Results>

* Ipposha's product B: Since this is a conventional agent, the quantity used was twice that of the highly-concentrated agents.
2. Test of the emulsification and removal of wax and prevention of redeposition
<Preparation of test specimen>
20% paraffin wax (melting point 130) in perchloroethylene was dripped onto polyester taffeta. The fabric was then dried and cured at 170°C for 1 minute.
<Test conditions>
Substrate: Polyester taffeta (prepared as above)
Treatment:
 |
Scouring agent: |
See below |
| NaOH (flake): |
2g/L |
|
Liquor ratio: |
1:20 |
|
Temperature & Time: |
95°C x 60min
→Warm rinsing (60°C) →Cold rinsing →Drying (80°C x 15min) |
<Evaluation>
- Emulsification and removal of wax
After rinsing, treated cloth was colored according to the following conditions and then examined for wax residue.
| Coloring conditions: |
Sudan IV oil soluble suspension
(lipophilic color) |
| Liquor ratio: |
1:75 |
- Prevention of redeposition
After residual solution was filtered through No.5A black filter paper, the residue on the filter paper was examined to determine the effectiveness of the emulsification of the wax. The smaller the amount of residue, the better the emulsification of the wax and thus the agent's ability to prevent redeposition.
<Results>

* Ipposha's product B: Since this is a conventional agent, the quantity used was twice that of the highly concentrated agents.
3. Penetration Test
<Test conditions>
A piece of cotton canvas measuring 1cm x 1cm was carefully placed on the prepared solution and the time required for it to become completely wetted was determined. The shorter the time, the better the penetration.

<Method>
200ml of solution was prepared, upon which the test substrate was carefully floated. The time required for wetting of the entire fabric was determined.

5. Test for foaming properties (foaming during treatment)
<Method>
(1) Homomixer
| Foaming: |
400mL of test solution was placed in a 1 liter beaker and stirred at 10 000 rpm for 5 min. The height of the foam was then determined. |
| Defoaming: |
3 minutes after the foaming test had been completed (i.e. after the discontinuation of stirring), the height of the foam was determined. |
(2) Bubbling with nitrogen gas
| Foaming: |
400mL of solution in a 1L beaker maintained at certain temperature was bubbled for 5 minutes with 500mL/min of nitrogen gas from the bottom of the beaker passing through a No.2 glass filter. The height of foam was then determined. |
| Defoaming: |
Bubbling was discontinued after 5 minutes, and then the solution was left for 2 minutes. The height of the foam was then determined. |
(3) Shaking in a test tube

Method of use
TRIPON AC-21-1 is a concentrated scouring agent effective at half the concentration (i.e. 0.5g~1.0g/L) of conventional agents. The quantity used, however, should be determined according to the scouring method and machinery used and the fabric to be treated.
Packaging
18kg can, 1000kg container
