Scouring agent for polyurethane
Tripon RS-80
| Ipposha Oil Industries' scouring agent for polyurethane, Tripon RS-80, produces superior effects in the removal and emulsion-dispersion of silicon oil and knitting oil, and due to its low foaming properties, can be used without trouble in jet dyeing machines etc. |
Demand for blended fibers containing spandex, such as nylon/spandex and polyester/spandex, is continually increasing. Spandex fibers are covered with a silicon oil to prevent stretching during spinning. Since this oil is firmly affixed to the fibers, it is very difficult to remove during conventional scouring and can lead to uneven dyeing. In addition, use of a non-ionic scouring agent to remove it can cause degradation of the urethane fibers.
Tripon RS-80 is a new scouring agent composed primarily of a special ionic surfactant which detaches oil that is firmly attached to fiber, causing its removal, emulsification and dispersion. It is also effective in the scouring of other oils that are hard to remove such as vexilla oil.

Properties:
- Effective in the removal and emulsification-dispersion of silicon oil.
- Negligible effect on dyeing; can be used in one-bath scouring and dyeing.
- Does not cause degradation of urethane.
- Due to low degree of foaming, can be used in jet dyeing machines etc.
- Since it does not contain NP (nonyl phenol; and so is less harmful to the environment), it is not regulated by the PRTR (Pollutant Release and Transfer Register).
Performance Evaluation
Requirement 1: Effective in the removal and emulsification-dispersion of silicon oil
∇Observation of surface of residual bath after scouring for spot removal
∇Effectiveness in the removal of silicon oil in spot test
Scouring was conducted after oil had been firmly attached to the fabric. The color of the area of the spot was measured with a colorimeter. The lower the value of a, the better the scouring.
∇Observation of the surface of residual bath in scouring test
∇Determination of the amount of oil remaining after scouring test
Requirement 2: Usable in one bath scouring and dyeing
∇Effectiveness of oil removal in one bath scouring and dyeing test
<Evaluation>
:Spot not discernible :Spot clearly discernable
∇Effectiveness of spot removal in dispersion test

<Evaluation>
After treatment under the above conditions, the solution was cooled to 90°C and then agitated for 20 min. Suction filtration was conducted with No.5A filtration paper and the residue was examined. A small amount of residue indicated that the dyestuff did not coagulate and thus had good dispersal properties.
<Notation>
: Small amount of residue : Large amount of residue
Requirement 3: Urethane not weakened
∇Tensile strength and elongation test
Test fabric: 100% polyurethane yarn
<Method>
Yarn was soaked in undiluted scouring agent for 40 hours, rinsed, dried (100°C x 60min), and then tested for tensile strength and elongation in an autograph (tensile strength tester).
