UV-shielding agent

ULS-700/ULS-1700

UV-shielding agent for use in post-processing
The special feature of Ipposha Oil Industries' two UV-shielding agents, ULS-700 and ULS-1700, is the ability to withstand 30 launderings. Production of soft hand is another.

The benzophenone type ULS-700 is widely used in conventional UV-shielding finishing, while ULS-1700, a benzotriazole type with superior UV-shielding properties, targets specialized areas.

A UPF value of at least 30 is required in general UV-shield finishing today. Even stricter requirements for over 50 UPF value can be found in work suits for all-day, outdoor use in Australia. While ULS-700 has been the main seller, demand for ULS-1700 is also growing.

UV-shielding Properties and Durability

Method

    Substrate: Cotton broad cloth (non-mercerized)
Liquor: 1% and 3% solutions of each UV shielding agents
    Treatment: 1 dip, 1 nip
    Pick-up: 80%
    Drying: 100°C x 2 min
    Heat setting: 160°C x 2 min

UV-shielding properties

UV transmittance (%T) between 500-250 nm in treated fabric observed using Hitachi spectrophotometer U-3200 (with integrating sphere)

Durability

JIS L-0217 103 (with use of Marseilles soap)
    Alteration of UV-shielding effects observed after 0, 10, 20 and 30 launderings.

Australia/New Zealand Standards

    1. Examined are UPF (UV protection factor) values of ULS-700 and ULS-1700 solutions in different concentrations, as well as UVR (UV radiation of 290 -400 nm) protection levels
