Soaping agent “Disperon G-55K”

Introduction

In the dyeing of knits or weaves of polyester or its blends, staining trouble has become more pronounced along with the spread of high-speed spinning, caused by the resultant increases in the quantity of oligomers.

Moreover, staining is also increasing due to the decomposition of liberated terephthalic acid during weight reduction treatment with the use of caustic soda, a process now commonly carried out for improved fabric hand.

An extended process of cold or warm washing is necessary for the elimination of such trouble. There has been a greater demand for a soaping agent that allows rationalization of the washing process while being capable of dealing with staining of the substrate and the dyeing machine. Disperon G-55K has been developed in order to meet this demand.

Disperon G-55K is a soaping agent that achieves outstanding results in the elimination of polyester oligomers and decomposed terephthalic acid resulting from weight reduction. It also ensures the amount of residue remaining as machine staining is reduced to a minimum.

Description

Appearance : Pale yellow translucent liquid
Main component : Special nonionic/anionic surfactant
Ionicity : Anionic
pH : 3.5±0.5 (stock solution)
Viscosity : 100cps or less
Solubility : Dissolves readily in water at room temperature

Features

* Compatible with a variety of recipes, being effective in a broad pH range.
NB: While its pH is on the acid side, it does not reduce the effect of scouring or reduction clearing.
* Prevents oligomers and the residue of weight reduction treatment from staining yarn, fabric or dyeing machines.
* A chelate effect on metallic ions can be expected due to the chelate component of the polycarboxylic acid content.
* Also effective as a machine cleaner after the disperse dyeing of polyester.
* Because of its outstanding solubility, it will not remain as residue on the substrate.

Method of use

1. As a soaping agent for detached polyester after weight reduction
  treatment with caustic soda

Use in soaping (warm rinsing) after weight reduction treatment with caustic soda and before neutralization with acid. The recommended amount is 1-3g/L. The quantity should be determined by the degree of weight reduction required.

2. As an oligomer remover

In scouring or reduction clearing (RC)

  1. Use in conjunction with a scouring agent for the removal of oligomers produced during spinning (quantity: 0.5-1g/L)
  2. With a reduction clearing agent (caustic soda, soda ash, sodium hydrosulfite) for the removal of oligomers produced during dyeing (quantity: 1-2g/L)
  3. As a cleaning agent for dyeing machines (quantity: 3-5g/L)

While quantities in the recipes above are used as standard based on our test data and practical conditions, the method is not fixed and should be determined upon after preliminary testing.

Oligomer dispersion test

In order to assess performance in dispersing oligomers, the degree of dispersion was compared with and without Disperon G-55K in the black paper filtration of oligomers, extracted with the use of dioxane into an acidic or alkaline solution.

(1) Test on dispersion in acidic solution (to simulate oligomer remaining
   during dyeing)

    Oligomer solution 10cc/200cc
    Disperon G-55K 0.5g/L
    Acetic acid pH=5

The dispersing agent was add to the test solution with pH adjusted to 5 using acetic acid while being stirred. After the temperature was raised to 130゚C then cooled to 80゚C, suction filtration was carried out using black filter paper.

(2) Test on dispersion during reduction clearing

   a) Reduction clearing for pale to medium shades (pH 10)

    Oligomer solution 10cc/200cc
    Disperon G-55K 0.5g/L
    Acetic acid pH=10

   b) Reduction clearing for deep shades (pH 12)

    Oligomer solution 10cc/200cc
    Disperon G-55K 0.5g/L
    Caustic soda pH=12

Suction filtration with black filter paper after 80゚C x 15min
