  Dyeing of mixed fiber (by exhaust method)
3-1. Dyeing of polyester-based mixtures

Polyester is most frequently used in mixtures with other fibers, mainly with natural fibers such as cotton and wool, making use of the wash-and-wear and heat-set properties and durability.

Table 4 shows major polyester mixtures and their use.

For the dyeing of polyester mixtures, the following factors should be noted:

  1. Dyes for polyester can easily cause staining on the other fibers.
  2. Polyester requires high dyeing temperature, which differs from the optimum temperature for other fibers.
The dyeability and staining properties of dyes for polyester on other fibers are shown in Table 5.

This table indicates a general tendency. As reactions vary depending on each dye, even between items in the same group, selection of dyes well-suited for mixed dyeing is crucial.
