Taiwan’s garment export decreases by two-digits in 2007 |
|
The export of textile products from Taiwan in 2007 by value was $11.596 billion (a drop of 1% from the previous year) and the import was $2.653 billion (a drop of 2%), making a trade surplus of $8.943 billion. By quantity, the export was 2,982,900 tons (a drop of 7%) and the import was 695,900 tons (a drop of 7%), showing a year-on-year decline in both export and import by value and quantity.
The decline rate for garment export is specially significant, dropping 10% from the previous year by value and 13% by quantity, due to an increase in relocation of production to China and Vietnam. The following chart shows the details of Taiwan's trade for textile products in 2007 ( export and import by item).
